It had taken her a while to steel herself - after all, how exactly were you supposed to walk up to somebody who you counted as a friend and say Hey, so I heard you told my boyfriend that I said he hits me.
Then again, it's not like she's exactly had the most normal conversations in the world with pretty much anyone.
Caroline exhales slowly, and then knocks on his door, and she - surprise, surprise - isn't actually a ball of nerves. She's just sort of resigned, and tired, and they've got to get this over with, before the elephant hanging around in the room was way bigger than anybody could deal with.

He's finally getting started with his day -or at least getting ready to do something worthwhile when Caroline knocks. She hasn't felt like training since he and Klaus got into it, and he's noticed. He gives her a hard look and doesn't invite her in right away.
"Hey."

Because otherwise, they can have this talk out in the hallway - but she'd rather not. She trusts him-- or did, but she doesn't want it to all go to hell either way.

He moves aside sort of stiffly. It's just about the last thing he wants to talk about today, but he can't be seen arguing with a teenage girl in the hallway right before Cap's announcement.
He crosses his arms and waits. He's sure as hell not starting this bull, even if he can't avoid it.

She doesn't know where else to go than that, after she's walked into the room and turned back, and her hands are in the pockets of her dress, because she knows that otherwise she'd be wringing them, and that's not what this needs, right now.
A week ago, she'd be a blabbering mess. Now, she just says that, and then- "Why?"

He honestly doesn't remember saying that -unless it was that crack about using her as a punching bag. He just hates the guy, hates the whole deal, and his short term memory tends to get spotty on any encounter that ends with knockout gas.
"That guy's an asshole."

"Yeah, well. I don't really see any of us winning personality of the year awards. What'd he do that makes you so mad?" She paused, and then her voice lowers a little. "If it's about what happened in Port Royal, believe me. Not really standard operating procedure. I was trying to tear out his heart with my bare hands while a witch was trying to kill him."
And she still can't recount it as even-toned as she'd like, her hands tightening in her pockets, her lips pressing together, but it's not as bad as it could be. Not as bad as it was, the first time she'd just up and lost it on him.

It pretty much answers all her questions, too. When he doesn't go on, Caroline's face goes from expectant to exasperated.
"We done?"
no subject
And it's not about her, but it is. This part is. Now's when she's getting upset, but she's not going to say anything about it, her eyes shiny as she looks away. "So yeah. We're done. I'm up for picking back up practice if you're still up for it, but I understand if you're not." That's it, then. The long and the short of it.

He's not usually a vindictive guy, but the idea of Caroline trying to make peace between an animal like Klaus and...an animal like him just rankles. If he can't get her to agree with him, the next best thing is to get the hell out.
"We're doing all this to help keep you safe, right? Here's your next lesson: break up with that freakshow."
no subject
"I killed him, once." She says it as she stares at him. "I slammed his head into a desk, because he was delirious. Didn't know what was going on. I'd do the same thing to you, if you weren't yourself and were about to go shishkabob people you cared about."
She moved half a step closer. "I am the same as that freakshow. What he did to me was no worse than what you did to Steve."
And then she shook her head slightly. "I can't believe you guys. All you do is tell me, "Don't be ashamed of what you are, Caroline. Be what you are, Caroline, and now? Now you tell me to break up with one guy who has been there for me, over, and over, and over again."
She shook her head. "Thanks for the training. I think I'm good on my own, now." And with that - faster then a human can move - she's gone.
